Meet the Angels
Anita SwetmanMy Background….Having returned to college as a mature student in 2005 to study Beauty Therapy whilst still maintaining a career as a Pharmacy Technician since 1990, my passion grew for the industry and after I went on and qualified in massage and Hot stone therapy this led me to reduce my hours in pharmacy and start up my own home based business in November 2012 and it is going from strength to strength.
My first time…..I first saw Lava Shells at Professional Beauty in London in 2012 where I was intrigued as well as fascinated at how this tool could be so superior to Hot Stones. I thought long and hard before deciding to invest in the shells as I soon realised this was not an overnight fad. So having trained in Lava Relax in October 2013 I fell in love and my business grew even stronger as my passion grew.
What I love most about the shells….I fell in love with their smoothness and how pretty they looked as well as being so easy to prepare, look after and manage the heat so effectively. How you can adapt the treatment to anybody and any ailment, my passion was growing stronger and this led to me to qualify in all of the treatments and become a Lava Angel in 2014.
Highlights from Angels 1st year…..The Lava Party in London hosted by OK! magazine, working backstage at Fusion Festival meeting so many artists just starting out in their career that are making it big now in the music industry, performing treatments at a ladies pamper party within so many beautiful homes & meeting and massaging Blue on tour. I have also had the opportunity to do lots of ‘Love Lava’ days in my village too as well as pamper events for charity, even performing Lava shell massage live on air at a local radio station! All these events have generated more interest in myself and the Lava Shells as I am now what my clients call ‘Their local celeb’ . But the best highlight for me is it has really brought me out of my comfort zone and done things I never thought I could do without the help and support from such a wonderful company. This has now led to press and media now having Lava Shell massages at my home salon.
Karen GriffithsMy Background….I am a qualified beauty therapist with an established, successful business. I have 20 years’ experience gained through working for various salons and The Champneys Spa group.
My first time…? I’ve never been one for complacency and always keeping abreast of anything new in the beauty industry. I had read about the Lava Shells and discovered them at the Professional beauty show. I was very impressed with this unique therapy and signed up for training straight away.
What I love most about the shells…. My clients and I love the smoothness and the warmth of the Shells and the results are fantastic. It’s a hugely popular treatment within the salon. Keen to share this ultimate massage I joined the Lava Angels.
Highlight from the Angels 1st year…. I am very proud to be a Lava Angel and to be part of an amazing team. I Love the opportunities it has given me and people I have met. I have enjoyed all my assignments with no two being the same i.e. Laura Hamilton’s baby shower, Dr Wongs product launch and treating Dan Bowers and Sarah (manger of Olly Murrs) to the wonderful Lava Relax Massage.
Karen BidwellMy background…… I first trained in Reflexology back in 1999. I decided to add another string to my bow by training as a masseur. I was a keen runner back then and knew loads of running club friends who needed a good massage before and after big events. I then went on to do further training to enable me to give deeper massages but this soon became quite taxing on my hands as my client base increased.
My first time…. I watched the Apprentice in 2011 and saw the lava shells being demonstrated on the show. I thought WOW that’s what I need to do. I rang Shared Beauty Secrets and put myself on the first available course. I’ve loved using the lava shells ever since and my clients love them too.
What I love most about the shells….. I love the heat of the shells and how this penetrates into the muscles so you can quickly give your client a deep massage. Also, the shape of the shells, enabling me to use different techniques to stretch the muscles.
Highlight from Angels first year ….. The Peter Jones Charity event at the Royal Berkshire Shooting Ground. I met and worked with some lovely people but best of all I sat next to a Royal Navy Helicopter pilot at dinner! Oh yes, and playing heads or tails with Peter Jones!
Laura SmithMy Background…. I have been working in beauty therapy for around 6 years now, I started working in a day spa before heading off to the high seas on a cruise line. Once I was back on dry land I became assistant manager at a salon before opening my own salon in Wolverhampton.
My first time… I am quite new to lava shells and have only been using them for a few months; my first Lava Angel event will be Fusion Festival which I am very excited about.
What I love most about the shells…. I love the heat aspect to the treatment without the hassle of hot stones (which I decided not to have at my salon) it means even my clients that don’t like a firm massage can still get amazing results with muscle aches and pains. I also love the shape of the shells as it becomes easy to work different muscles and give different types of massage. I have also found that once my client experiences the treatment they become hooked.
Highlight from the Angels 1st year…. I am looking forward to fusion festival and getting the support of the local press with the Express and Star lifestyle section reviewing me and the Lava Shells treatment in an article about stress. As the Lava Shell massage is so relaxing it will fit perfectly in helping to relieve stress.
Shiene MannMy Background…. I have a GNVQ levels 1-3 in Beauty therapy, where I qualified at Colchester Institute in 1999. I have been working at The Natural Healing Centre for 14 years which is a family run business.
My first time… When I booked the lava shell training at Olympia I never expected such a dramatic journey. I did my training with Vanessa in November 2014 and haven’t looked back. I no longer do hot stones as a treatment because the love of lava has gone through the roof. I did my 1st event at Christmas 2014 giving everyone a 15 minute back treatments along with a mince pie and mulled wine, the experience was incredible. I have continued hosting these events and branching out into lava shot parties.
What I love most about the shells…. I love the way they feel in my hands. They are so smooth which glides over the body effortlessly. I can include all the moves that I do in my Swedish massage with the added bonus of using a continuous deep heat to break down the tension and then using the angles of the shell to ease the aches & pains. I love the way I can take these on mobile assignments by doing events and parties too.
Highlight from the Angels 1st year…. This year I did my 1st assignment a Relax treatment on Millie Mackintosh – she was so relaxed she was sleeping like a baby. Then my second assignment was on tour with the boyband Blue. Then attending a group assignment for Laura Hamilton’s baby shower was a new experience as up to now I had worked on my own. Meeting other angels was very refreshing along with great company. Following this journey is Peter Jones annual charity events and Fusion Festival in Birmingham. I get great satisfaction when people are benefiting from the Lava Shells and at the same time I get to experience a world I never thought I would be a part of!
SamMy Background…. I have been in the beauty, spa and massage business for over 25 years (gulp) from owing my own business, spa management, sports therapy and teaching within a FE colleges. Over two decades of hands on, hands off, teaching, learning and developing businesses.
My first time…? I started working with the Lava Shells in 2010 after we held a college training day, I fell in love that day and renewed my passion for massage. Over the next few years I trained in all of the Lava Shells treatments and started using the Lava Shells on my private clients, within the spas I managed and teaching the courses for Shared Beauty Secrets. I was delighted when my role became full time a year ago so now I get to live breathe and sleep Lava Shells and help spread the Lava Love on a daily basis.
What I love most about the shells…. Knowing that I can perform a nice relaxing treatment or a deep tissue sports massage, I love that I can tailor my massage to suit my client’s needs. I love that the Lava Shell does the work for me – that I can explore, locate and treat specific tension areas, that the warmth of the shell penetrates deep into the muscle allowing me to treat the area instantly. I love that the shell is an extension of my hands so the treatment can not only relax and soothe but actually treat the muscles giving effective results every time.
Highlight from the Angels 1st year…. There has been so many for me, I have been delighted and honoured to work with such an amazing team over the last 12 months, with no two weeks being the same my job can never be described as mundane. Massaging the penguins from Madagascar backstage at Capital FM’s Jingle Bell Ball was pretty awesome and of course giving a full Lava Shells Recovery For Men treatment to Danny O’Donaguhue from the Script with the soothing tones of Ollie Murrs singing live in the background. I also loved playing in the Royal Navy’s Wild Cat Helicopter as I finally got the company wings sorted!
